专名意义的两种理论及其融合

On the two Theories of Meaning of Proper Names and their Integration

摹状词理论与历史因果理论是专名意义问题上的两种对立的理论。从表面上看,这两种理论在专名有无涵义的问题上持截然相反的观点,但仔细分析可以发现,借助于可能世界的观念,它们在某种程度上是可以统一的。因此,将这两种理论结合起来考察专名的意义,就不仅能更好地说明专名的涵义和指称,而且能说明专名涵义的起源。

The theory of description and the theory of historical causality are opposite to each other on the problem of the meaning of proper names.Seemingly,the two theories hold mutually contradictory viewpoints on the problem of whether a proper name has connotation,but through careful study,we find out that they can be integrated to some degree with the help of the idea of possible world.By integrating the two theories to examine the meaning of proper names,we can not only better explain the connotation and reference of proper names,but also the origin of the connotation of proper names.
