By introducing the importance of schema theory in reading comprehension, the paper points out that in the teaching of college English reading, the key to success lies in the efforts made both to evoke the students＇ existing schematic knowledge and to create new schematic knowledge for them .The paper also makes a tentative study of how to apply the schema theory to the reading teaching.
