爱德华·蒙克一生的艺术创作都遵循着:“我要描绘那些在生存、在感受、在痛苦、在恋爱的活生生的人们”。[1]他创作的最主要的题材是死亡与爱情,这是他亲身遭遇的内心感受的真实描写。他运用夸张的手法、灰暗的色调、变形的形象,表达了人们的欲望、恐惧和孤独。他的艺术创作是这种内心斗争形象化的描绘,是一种“心灵的写实主义”。蒙克的艺术,对西方现代主义有着深远的影响,无愧为表现主义的先驱。

Edward. Monk in all his life followed ＂I＇d like to describe those people who are existing, feeling, suffering and loving. ＂ The main themes he created is about death and love, which were the real description of his personal sufferings. He used the exaggerative method, gloomy color and deformed image to express people＇s desire, fear and loneliness and his artistic creation is the imaginative description of this inner struggle, one kind of ＂realism of soul＂. His art affect western modem realism and he is worth the tide of the vanguard of expressionism.
