张爱玲笔下的《半生缘》以细腻的手法刻画了曼桢这个女性形象,传达了作者在文化历史纬度之上对女性价值的思考。曼桢在“外在张力场”(其“在而不属”的生存挣扎与世钧“属而不在”的妥协思想的矛盾)以及“内在张力场”(目的和手段的分离)的折腾下,不断地被“他者抛弃”和“自我抛弃”,其自我救赎的热望最终被全面瓦解,成为文化传统价值“圣坛”上的“祭品”。
Yuan of Half a Life ( also known as Eighteen Springs) is written by Eileen Chang. In this novel a female characters, Manzhen, was exquisitely portrayed, with whom Chang expressed her unique understanding of women's positions in and beyond the contemporary Chinese history.
Manzlaen's ideological contradiction between the purpose of living and means of living tortures her much, as her survival strategy is also in contradiction with Shijun's: she is in this world but not belonged to it, but Shijun's one is the reverse. So she is ceaselessly abandoned by the "Other" and herself. Ultimately her desire of self - redemption is totally disintegrated when she was made "the sacrificial offering" by the value systems of traditional Chinese culture.
