华西协合大学的办学模式与经验及对我国高等教育的启示

West China United University’s Running Mode and Experience and Its Implication to Higher Education in China

华西协合大学是西方传教士在我国成都开办的高等教育机构,其最初的办学宗旨是＂借助教育为手段以促进基督事业＂,有着鲜明的政治企图.在办学实践中,其宗教色彩逐渐淡薄,教育功能日益增强,从而加强了与社会联系并为社会服务.华西协合大学在中外人士的共同努力下办出了自身的特色,促进了我国医学教育事业的现代化,其办学模式及办学经验对当今高等医学教育有着一定的启示.

West China United University （WCUU） is an institution of higher learning set up by western clergymen in Chengdu. Its initial running tenet was to promote the cause of Jesus Christ through education and had an obvious political motive. During the running practice, its religious character became weakened gradually and educational function was strengthened increasingly, thus meeting the needs of society and serving the society. Its characteristics were embodied by the corporate efforts of people in China and in foreign countries. It has promoted the modernization of Chinese medical education. The running mode and experience of WCUU have some implications to higher medical education today.
