摘要
“君子”是一个最具有中国特色的文化词。“君子”含义的解读与翻译应该是一个跨文化交际问题。本论文收集了各种儒家典籍作品英译本中有关“君子”的30多种翻译,并就“君子”一词的历史演变过程和“君子”各种英译形式的意义重点加以分析。通过多种译本对“君子”一词的翻译对比,论文指出文化词的翻译是一个复杂的历史性和交际性问题,与译者的世界观和文化视野有密切关系。
A thorough comprehension of Junzi category in classic Chinese and a faithful conveying of its connotative meaning in English are important issues in intercultural communication. This essay offers more than thirty translations of junzi from the English versions of various Chinese classic works with an analysis of the historical change of its connotative meaning and a discussion of the difference in the connotative meaning between junzi and gentleman . Special reference is made to each translation in interpreting the meaning of the term. After a comparative study of the translations of junzi in several versions, the essay reaches the conclusion that the translation of cultural terms is a complicated historical and communicative issue which is closely related to the translator's outlook of the world and his cultural horizon.
