Living by the river for generations, the Deng people are tightly bound to the bridges, In and outside the villages inhabited by the Dong people there are various beautiful and magnificent Blessed bridges here and there. The bridges which are built without a single nail, are an integration of the bridge, veranda and temple with all sorts of sculptures, colored paintings, tablet inacriptions as ell as sculptures of gods on them. The Blessed bridges are not only convenient passages but also channels for the Dong people to pass on life and appease the soul. To the Dong people the bridges are the vital means to gather fortunes for the whole village as well as the inevitable route for metempsychosis. The Dong people regard the Blessed bridges as precious as life and each bridge was built with their concerted effods and the money donated by the Dong people, Yet, owing to the destruction of the "Cuitural Revolution" and the impact of the economic tide, the Blessed bridges have lost their luster of divinity.
