摘要
艾略特和蔡元培都曾取经于德国,一个繁荣了哈佛大学,一个成就了北京大学。本文认为二者在学术自由、采用选课制、重视研究和设立研究生院方面都有相同点,但对于外国文化的态度上又略显不同。事过境迁,但这两位校长的教育思想至今仍具有强大的生命力。
Eliot flourished Harvard University. Cai Yuanpei made Beijing University prosperous. Both of them ever studied in Germany. They shared the ideas of advocating academic freedom, adopting elective, emphasizing the importance of research and establishing the department of postgraduate. They had different attitudes to foreign culture. We can find great practical magnificence in studying the thoughts of Eliot and Cai Yuanpei.
