目前,在服务器管理领域,基于串口的管理方案被广泛应用。然而,这种方案单对单的本性使得它只适于一台或几台服务器的管理。在管理多组服务器时,这种方案连线复杂,管理混乱,成本较高。为此,本文提出了一种基于IPMI的虚拟远程串口终端(SOLTerm,Serial Over Lan Terminal),这种终端基于IPMI v2．0的SOL设计,它通过LAN与目标机器的BMC 交互,将目标机器上的串口重定向到局域网上,为管理人员提供了一个监控、管理、配置操作系统和BIOS的远程控制台, 方便了服务器的监控、管理和故障修复,节约了机房管理成本。

Serial -based management solutions are widely used in server environments today. However, the point -to -point nature of this solution is best suited for managing a single server rather than a group or rack of servers. To salve this problem, a virtual remote serial terminal （Serial Over Lan Terminal, SOLTerm） based on IPMI （Intelligent Platform Management Interface）is introduced. This ritual terminal is designed based on the new feature SOL presented in IPMI v2.0. Through SOLTerm, administrator can access the serial port of the remote server everywhere in the LAN. It provide a text - based remote console for setting BIOS, operating systems, and networks. It reduces large cost of Severs Management, while providing a convenient way for Administration.
