The fat amount of hens was increasing with their age. From 90 to 470 days age,which is from early youth to middle age,the fat amount in abdominal cavity per kilogram weight of hens had increased from 1. 2 grams to 78 grams ,and the activity of fatty acid synthase in their livers per kg weight of hens increased from 514 units to 4939 units. The dependence of the fat amount on the enzyme activity had been fit with a quadratic function. The two groups of same age hens that their fat amounts were different more than 4 times showed a 10-fords difference in FAS activity in their livers. The results have shown thedependence of fat level on FAS activity. Adjustment of FAS activity is assumed to be one of primary methods for controling the fat level of animals.
