Chinese herb(Vitality Reinforcing Formula) is effective in improving renal function and delaying senility in clinic.The effect of VRF extract on proto-oncogenes expression was studied in osteoblast-like ROS17/ 2. 8 cells. Cells were brought to confluence and then starved for 24 h in serum-free medium. Total RNA was extracted from the cells for Northern blot. It was found that c-myc and c-fos expression was increased 79. 4% and 68 % respectively; while p53 expression was decreased 52. 4 %. These results suggest that VRF has potential proliferative effcet in ROS1 7/ 2. 8 cells.
