在《红楼梦》中,秦可卿主要是为贾宝玉而设的配角,其“兼美”而“可卿”是感发宝玉“知情”而“传情入色”——“意淫”的外缘和初恋理想的形象。在这一理想映照下,林黛玉、薛宝钗都美中不足。这是宝玉和他们之间的感情纠葛之所以成为悲剧的前提,也是《红楼梦》受佛教影响对世俗的基本观点。
