In order to have an enhanced understanding of the collage technique adopted by Heiner Mǖller in his drama since 1970s, this article takes The Task as a case and makes an analysis of the collage features in view of the plots and narration. This article demonstrates that the drama is characterized by such features as fragmented plots and narrative texts based on the scenario, the "jointing" and "pasting" of the "heterogeneous" fragments by various connecting methods, and the different styles of representing each fragment, which make The Task typical of a collage drama Heiner Mǖller's collage drama stems not only from the need of renovation in dramatic forms, but also from an artistic endeavor to reflect post-modern society. A "common production" mode of reading that Heiner Mǖller hopes to achieve in the audiences is also a way of post-modernistic practice.
