大学的产生是社会发展的必然,新生的大学在实践中逐步培育了自己的精神和理念,大学的精神和理念使大学拥有自身的特征。社会经济形态的变迁,促使大学从社会发展的边缘走向社会发展的中心,在大学凝练精神和理念的过程中,现代大学也在中世纪大学特征的基础上,形成了现代大学的特征。

The emergence of universities is the necessity of the social development. During their practice the newly born universities gradually nurtured their own spirit and ideas, and the university spirit and ideas enabled the universities to possess their own characteristics. The changes of the social and economical forms promoted the universities to go from the fringe of the social development to the center of the social development. In the course of crystallizing their spirit and ideas, modern universities are forming the characteristics of modern universities on the basis of the characteristics of universities in the Middle Ages.
