Molybdophosphoric acid with Keggin structure is an effective catalyst for oxidative reactions. As the central atom, coordinated atom and equilibrium ion in the molybdophosphoric acid are displaced in a suitable manner, it exhibits increasing catalytic activity although the structure of the anion keeps unchanged. In this paper a series of heteropoly compounds, A 1.5 P 1.13 Mo 12 Sb 0.25 Cu 0.25 V 0.25 As 0.20 O x (A=Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs), were synthesized by a coprecipitation method. The redox properties of heteropoly compounds were systematically characterized by means of ESR, FTIR etc . The effects of alkali and transition metals on redox properties of the heteropoly compounds were discussed. The redox capacity of transition metals Cu, V, Mo in the heteropoly compounds was compared. The catalytic performance of the heteropoly compounds for one step oxidation of isobutyraldehyde to methacrylic acid was measured as well. The relation between the redox property and the catalytic performance was discussed too.
