中国城市在悠久的发展过程中,形成了独特的文化传统,本文从物质文化层、制度文化层和精神文化层等三个层次分别描述了中国城市文化的内涵与特点。中国城市文化的精神脉络既有中国传统文化的精华,也有时代的局限,对历史传统中精华部分的继承无疑将成为我国当代城市建设的核心任务。

Chinese cities have formed its unique cultural tradition in the long development process. The article describes the cultural implications of Chinese cities and its characteristics from three aspects： material cultural level, institutional cultural level, and spiritual cultural level. The cultural spirit of Chinese cities contains not only the essence of Chinese traditional culture, but alto the limitation of the times. Undoubtedly, carrying on the essential part should be the main task of Chinese cities＇ construction at the present time.
