Briefly on the Literary Inquisition Concerning A Special Collection of Poems in the Qing Dynasty

沈德潜《国朝诗别裁集》案的发生,不仅是爱新觉罗王朝文化专制强化的结果,也与沈德潜所秉持的“以诗存人”的编纂原则有关,诗选中诸多触讳之处均由此原则而产生。沈德潜对这一原则的坚持,对扭转清前期以来诗坛以名位交游为重的风气,大有裨益,也使《国朝诗别裁集》成为真实呈现清前期诗坛景观的重要选本。

The case concerning A Special Collection of Poems in the Qing Dynasty is not only the result of the cultural autecracy of the Qing Dynasty, but also has something to do with the principle followed by Shen Deqian, namely that whether or not a poet is included is not determined by his social status but by his poem. As a result that some of the pomes in the collection are not to the taste of the Qing rulers. However his principle is of great help to readjust the trend in the poetic arena of the time, and the collection reveals a true picture of the then poetic arena.
