L2 Effect in Direct Translation

翻译能力之提高主要应建立在对翻译过程、双语交际能力及对双语相互影响现象的充分理解上。本研究将翻译过程分解为翻译对等原则的应用和目的语整合原则处理,并且据此对两则译作“病句”进行补检,发现它们是追求对等的结果,表现出二语对母语的影响,我们把顺向翻译中的这一普遍现象称作二语效应。目的语整合原则检验是一道不可或缺的工序,是翻译的终极原则。

Translation competence depends primarily on communicative competence in both SL and TL, and on an adequate understanding of mutual influences of the two languages involved as well as of the translation process. The translation process is itself analyzable into two dimensions: the application of Equivalence Principle and the treatment of TL Integration Principle. A reexamination of two “ill-translated sentences” based on these translation principles reveals the L2 influence on L1, as a result of equivalence-driven translation. We call such an influence L2 Effect in direct translation. Translators should stick to TL Integration Principle, which preempts the Equivalence Principle and should hence be regarded as the ultimate principle in translation.
