The Politeness Perspective of Translation of Euphemisms

通过对委婉语构造和翻译的考察,以《红楼梦》的一些委婉语为例,探讨语用学原则尤其是礼貌原则对委婉语构造和翻译的重要性,并结合译文比较分析提出了恰当的翻译策略。

By observing the construction and translation of euphemisms, with examples excerpted from Hong Lou Meng, this paper attempts to illustrate the importance of pragmatic rules, especially the Politeness Principle, over the construction and translation of euphemisms, and to provide some appropriate translation strategies by making use of a comparative analysis of different translated versions.
