The paper, based on the criticism of binary opposition the prevailing thinking rooted in Western metaphysical tradition, explores the long journey to maturity of the heroine in Cat＇s Eye, a novel by the contemporary Canadian writer Atwood. It traces the process of how she initiates into, internalizes and eventually transcends binary opposition, from the angles of children＇s games, cat＇s eye vision, reminiscence and paintings, and points out the vital part played by the re-evaluation of difference in dismantling binary opposition.
