湖南创办的第一所中等私立学校——明德学堂,表面上是一所私立学校,实际上成立后即成为湖南志士从事革命活动的隐蔽场所和以黄兴为中心的革命机关,从而成为了湖南资产阶级革命的摇篮。它的活动在湖南资产阶级革命运动中起了先驱作用。

Ming De school-the first middle private school established in Hunan was a private school. In fact it became the secret activity place where Hunan comrades engaged in, form the revolutionary organs regarding Huang Xing as the center, became revolutionary cradle of Hunan after establishment. Its activity once functioned as forerunner for the capitalist class revolution in Hunan.
