On the Poetry of HONG Zi-kui

南宋诗人洪咨夔是五言律诗的高手,创作了不少忧国忧民的诗歌,对当时的弊政和贪官予以深刻的揭露与辛辣的讽刺。其山水诗、咏物诗、闲居诗、挽诗很有艺术特色。他运用幻想、比喻、拟人、通感等艺术手法营构出新颖奇谲的意象群,在炼字、炼句、对仗等方面也有独特造诣,是南宋诗坛上一位杰出的诗人。

The Southern Song poet HONG Zi-kui is a master of poems with five characters to a line, who wrote numerous poems that show his deep concern for his country and the fate of the common people. His deep revealing and bitter sarcasm to the corrupted court and bureaucrats are also found in abundance in these poems. His poems on depicting mountains and waters, describing items, portraying idle moments of life, and morning the deceased are of unique artistic characteristics. He creates miscellaneous and novel image groups by employing such artistic means as imagination, metaphor, impersonation, etc, and he has a unique insightful understanding in terms of polishing words, sentence patterns and antithesis, etc. All of which make him a distinguished poet of the Southern Song Dynasty.
