This paper represents a summary of the status and trends of image retrieval techniques on the lnternet. This paper thoroughly analyses three types of image retrieval techniques, including textbased image retrieval, content-based image retrieval, and semantic-based image retrieval. Based on a large number of papers on this area, comparative research on these techniques is given first. And finally, this paper puts forward some valuable research areas.
