摘要
透过“许传玺院士”风波,从翻译的文化交流观和文化认知容忍度的角度出发,探讨了英语专有名词汉语重译的动机和中国读者对此的文化认知容忍度的问题.认为翻译的“文化交流观”值得翻译工作者思考;而涉及“头衔”的一些英语专有名词的重译是否更“标准”,这需要联系当前中国读者对此的文化认知容忍度来判断.“院士”风波也是因教育改革引起的教育自身的文化认知容忍度问题,值得中国教育界反思.
Taking the Member/Academician Dispute as a case, this paper discusses, from the concept of cultural communication of translation as well as the angle of cultural cognition tolerance, the translator's motive and Chinese readers' cultural cognition tolerance in retranslating English proper nouns. The authors hold that the concept of cultural communication is worth deeply thinking by translators, and whether the retranslation of English proper nouns concerning titles is "standard" or not should be decided according to Chinese readers" cultural cognition tolerance at present. The Member/Academician Dispute is also a crucial point of cultural cognition tolerance caused by the update educational reform in colleges and universities, which is worth reflecting in the whole Chinese educational circles.
