Comparative Study of Chinese Long and Dragon

龙文化是中华民族文化的象征,中国“龙”与西方“dragon”字面概念虽相同,但其来源、象征意义以及民族文化内涵却大相径庭,“龙”不管是翻译为dragon或the Chinese dragon都未能准确地表达中国龙的民族文化内涵。在对外文化交流中,应把Long或China Long作为“中国龙”的专有名词使用,以保持龙文化的理念和民族文化内涵,促进文化的交流。

Long is a symbol of Chinese culture. The origin,symbol and cultural connotation of Long or China Long are different from that of the dragon or the Chinese dragon translated in English ,although the external meaning of China Long and the Chinese dragon is the same. In order to preserve Long＇s concept and its special cultural characterization, transliteration of Long or China Long instead of the Chinese dragon is strongly recommended.
