Factor analysis and proposal for counter measures of drop-outs from modern distance education

摘要 对远程学习者辍学的研究始终是国际远程教育领域的热点话题,也是远程教育领域的一项基础性工作。本文试图通过对华南师范大学网络教育学院辍学者性别、年龄、选修学分和辍学原因的分析,剖析辍学者的特征,并提出了减少远程学习者辍学的对策建议。 The drop-outs of distance education have long been an issue concerned in the field of distance education practice and research. However, there is little evidential research at home to counter the issue. This article has made a study of the dropouts in e-colleges of the South China Normal University. It aims to analyze the critical reasons and essential factors which lead to drop-outs for distance education learners. The research has taken the 324 students as research target, who have applied to withdraw from the e-colleges of the Normal University of Southern China. Data of students' gender, age, degree-level, selected credits and reasons for drop-outs have been collected, which is used as research basis. In accordance with the analysis of those basic data, the authors conclude that the reasons for students' drop-outs are mainly induced by study and work contradiction, learning difficulties, personal or family factors, health status, or dissatisfaction with the e-colleges and study centers, etc. At the end of this article, the authors offer some suggestions and counter measures to reduce drop-outs from distance education learners.
