意境涵盖中国艺术所有领域,成为中国艺术的终极追求。意境也是现代平面设计所追求的至境。现代平面设计意境的构成由作品的思想蕴含、设计师的艺术技巧、受众的理解与再创造三方面构成,其意境的创造有寓虚境于实境的方法和化情思为景图的方法,要体现出时代精神、民族精神、创新精神和人文精神。
