This paper presents the hardware and software designs of a Var compen-satlon controller based on the 8098 microprocessor. The controller has more func-tion and higher credibility so that the maintenance is reduced greatly,and the con-troller efficlently uses the compensation ability of parallel -capacitor to maintain the optimal operat1on of electric power network under the condition of the best power factor.
