In his late years, Yeats wrote two poems based on the theme of Byzantium Sailing to Byzantium and Byzantium, expressing his yearning for a purely spiritual and artistic world. By analyzing and comparing the two poems, this paper discusses the change of themes through the key words, symbols, and the poet' s philosophical thinking used in the two poems, concluding that from the former poem to the latter one there's a shift of focus on death and eternity, and that the poet's philosophical thinking on death and eternity has become more mature and profound.
