霍桑遭遇“但丁式”潜藏矛盾——《红字》人物命运寓意探析

Hawthorne Encountering "Dante-Style" Latent Contradiction——Research on the Moral of the Characters' Fates in The Scarlet Letter

霍桑在《红字》主题的表现上,特别是在主要人物命运寓意的处理上,体现出了自己思想上的矛盾性。这种矛盾是“但丁式”的潜藏对抗,也是霍桑自身所无法摆脱的,可以说是19世纪的浪漫主义作家霍桑,在创作思想和创作手法上,无意中效仿了中世纪末的伟大诗人但丁。

Hawthorne expressed the conflicts in his mind on the theme of The Scarlet Letter, especially in dealing with the morals of the main characters＇ fates. This kind of contradiction derives from Dante＇s latent opposition, and couldn＇t be tolally aroided by Hawthorne himself. That is to say, on the aspect of artistic idea and techniques, Hawthorne, a romantic writer in the 19th century, unconsciously followed the lead of Dante, the greatest poet in the Middle Ages.
