This overview addressed the nature and characteristics of biodegradable functional fibers, the research trend and current status and the development prospect of the fibers with focuses on natural macromolecular fibers, polyester fiber and water soluble polymer fibers, and in particular, their uses in textile and medical areas. Furthermore, the development and application of the biodegradable fiber and functional fiber are discussed respectively.
