On Huang Ungjian's Reference to Tao Yuanming's Poetry

黄庭坚学杜众所公认,而黄与陶诗的关系则历代以来鲜有提及者。实际上,黄庭坚虽然没有像其师苏轼那样大张旗鼓地学陶,并有一系列和陶之作;但黄庭坚与陶诗也有很深的渊源:少年时代即喜好陶诗,晚年读陶诗更是“如渴饮水,如欲寐得啜茗”。黄庭坚在诗歌创作生涯中毕生追求不俗,而陶渊明那种处俗世而超然的人格境界及其质实朴素、自然淡远的诗风与黄庭坚的追求显然有契合之处。事实上,晚年的黄庭坚也确有一些学陶的成功之作。

It is well - known that Huang Tingjian learned much from Du Fu's poetry, but his relation with Tao Yuanming has frequently been neglected. In fact, though Huang Tingjian did not follow his teacher Su Shi to learn Tao Yuanming on a large scale, he also had a great passion for Tao from his early youth to the old.Huang Tingjian all his Me pursued in verse a style out of vulgarity in concordance with Tao Yuanming's preference. Besides, some of Huang Tingjian's late works succeeded in learning Tao's style.
