The industry and commerce activities of Japanese settlers in Taiwan were important parts of colonial economy during the Japanese colonial period. Many Japanese merchants went to Taiwan to seek economic profits after Taiwan was occupied by Japan. One hand, they possessed and grabbed the important resources of Taiwan - gold and camphor -rapidly by the privilege and convenient that the Japanese colonial government had entrusted to them. On the other hand, not alike the Japanese monopoly capital that entered Taiwan, their economic activities were more influenced by the colonial government.
