In the cultural presumption of the West, the Orient is assumed to be the "Other", in contrast to the West and is involved unwillingly in the process of self-modeling and cognition of the West, in which the Orient is set to be the "Mirror Image" when building up western subjectivity. In the novel of Fu Sang written by Yan Geling, a Chinese-born American writer, the emotional entanglement between the leading female and male characters double-subverted the above model in terms of race and gender. The essay made a in-depth study on that, taking Jacqes Lacan's "Mirror" theory as the main analyzing basis.
