采用区位理论，对江西在长江生态经济带中的地位和作用作了分析，结果表明，江西在长江流域实现沿海与内地协调发展中起着中心桥染作用．对江西实践可持续发展的自然条件和发展基础进行了分析，提出了按鄱阳湖流域实行流域的生态经济系统的整体开发与调控的思想。
