Duanmu Hong-liang is a very important member among Northeast China＇s writers. His literary achievements lie both in his novel ＂Ke＇ er＇ qin Prairie＇and his short stories written while he was exiled in the southern part of Shanhaiguan Pass. He enriches modern short story writing by his short stories, which celebrate national struggle, expose townspeople＇ s bourgeoisie thoughts, analyze his complicated self- identity, and combine his own life into his writing.
