Holden profoundly deconstructs the exile, quest and scapegoat archetypes of the traditional heroes after his three days roaming in New York, the agonizing accomplishment of growth and the falling into a hero on the never-boat in the modern wasteland- like ocean. The hero with triumphant return in Home's times has changed into a rootless man who spurns the loss of the physical country and the forlornness of the spiritual land through the protagonist's deeonstruetion of the traditional hero archetype in The Catcher in the Rye.
