Objective To observe the effect of mandibular fracture on bilateral temporomandibular joints. And research the mechanism of injuried TMJ repairing. Methods The fracture modds were made in the middle of the left mandible of the rabbits with muhifunctional striking equipment, then the specimens from the left lateral temporomandibular joints were taken after 48 hours and 1,3,5,8 weeks respectively. The expression of VEGF and its receptor at the fracture site was detected through immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization. Results Lesion of bilateral temporomandibular joints were seen in all groups. VEGF and Fltl receptor of VEGF were detected in pillar calls of condyloid process in experimental groups after fracture. Conclusion Mandibular fracture can induce lesion of temporomandibular joints. VEGF and Fltl maybe take part in healing after temporomandibular joints injury.
