从一首唐诗的英译谈起

On Poetry Translation based on a Translated Chinese Classic Poem

英汉两种语言分属两个不同语系,汉语又具有与生俱来的诗性特质,所以我们必须承认汉诗英译中诗歌审美鉴赏的差异性。在对汉英两种语言文字及其诗歌进行分析比较后我们发现,以普遍的翻译标准衡量性质完全不同的诗歌翻译是不切实际的。此外,汉语简隽、含蓄的特点、字词组合的随意性、句子成分的大量省略等语言现象造成了古典汉诗的多义性。

Because English and Chinese are of different family and Chinese is born with a poetic nature, we must accept the differences of poetry appreciation in translating Chinese classic poetry into English. Based on a contrastive study of Chinese and English and their poetry, this paper finds that it is impractical to apply the universal translating standards to poetry translation which is very different from any other kinds of translation. The paper also points out that some linguistic features of Chinese, such as laconism, implicitness, free wording combination and excessive use of omission etc. lead to ambiguity of its classic poetry.
