“不满”与“救赎”——从现代性的角度看沈从文的小说

Discontent and Redeem——Reading Shencongwen's Novels from the Angle of Modernity

与同时代大部分作家急切呼吁现代性不同,沈从文从一开始就对现代性表示了“不满”,这来自于他在现代都市中痛苦、屈辱的经历。这种经历,使身处都市的沈从文很自然地怀念他熟悉的家乡———湘西。在回忆中,湘西被美化了,而美化了的湘西更映衬出现代都市文明的丑陋。所以沈从文在小说创作上形成了一种城乡对照的心理结构。他要用湘西世界中人性的美好和生命的健康、自然,来对现代文明病进行“救赎”。他的现代性诉求是通过“不满”而“救赎”的路径进行的。

Shencongwen, who is different from many writers anxiously appealing medemity at that time , shows his discontent to the modernity at beginning othis creation. That comes from his painful and dishonor experience in modem metropolis. The experience makes him naturally remember his hometown--Western Hunan. In his memory, Western Hunan is beautified. The beautified Western Hunan makes the modem metropolis appear ugly. Therefore Shencongwen constructs a city - countryside comparison structure in his psychology of novel creation . He wants to redeem the diseases of modem civilization with good humanity and healthy, natural life , which are found in Westem Hunan. Shencongwen finished his demand of medemity through the way of discontent and redeeming.
