The "Free Prostitutes" and "Eradicate Prostitutes" in Beijing during the Late Qing and the Nationalist Periods

文章在考察晚清民国时期北京娼妓业的发展概况、产生原因与社会危害的基础上,重点分析政府与社会在内外交困的时代背景下,为救助特殊的娼妓群体与消除这个病态社会群体而进行的尝试与探索。

This paper examines the efforts of government and society at providing social assistance to prostitutes after a review of the backgrounds of rise and development of prostitution in late Qing and early Nationalist Period. It also analyzes the experiments with eliminating this unhealthful social group.
