“Modernist Literature” is a phenomenon explained in the literary ideology of “exploration”, “disjuncture”, and “multiplicity” of the 1980s. From the intellectual point of view of the 1990s, the “Modernist Literature” of the 1980s looms out with its self-imagination, projects and aspirations of form constructions. It connotes much more significance and more complicated ideas than the understanding of it at the time of its rebellious reading of realism and literary tradition. It is derived from the intellectual genealogy of Western literary history and established canons, and therefore carries with it a sort of historical purpose of taking the place of the red “literary canons” of the 1950s and 1970s. Does the rebellion of “Modernist Literature” against “contemporary literature” mean the birth of a different kind of literature?
