The Concept and History of Realism

本文探讨了绘画中的“写实主义”观念,试图将作为观念与作为历史上的艺术运动的“写实主义”区分开来进行理解。前者包括写实的哲学悖论、写实与人类制像的本能、写实作为激活艺术的源泉,而后者涉及写实主义的历史概念、写实主义与历史画的关系以及19世纪欧洲、尤其是法国写实主义绘画的性质。

This paper discusses “realist” concept in painting, trying to distinguish realism as a concept and realism as a historical movement in art. The former consists of the philosophical paradox of realism, the instinct of realistic portrait and the making of images, and realism as the source of art, while the latter is concerned with the historical concept of realism, the relation between realism and historical painting, and the quality of painting in 19th century Europe, especially of French realist painting.
