寻找通向彼岸之桥——试析《边城》与《格列弗游记》的乌托邦主题

Looking for the Right Path Leading to the Other Shore——Trying to Analyze the Utopian Themes of Border Town and Gulliver's Travels

“乌托邦”作为人们一直渴望和寻找的梦想,在中外众多的文学作品里多有反映。沈从文的《边城》和斯威夫特的《格列弗游记》在不同文化背景下其乌托邦主题有很大不同。二者一个重构过去,一个虚拟未来,以不同的视角揭示了一个相同的主题:美好的乌托邦是以放弃精神、灵魂、自由为代价的,而人又不可能做出真正的选择。因此,人类永远找不到通向彼岸的桥梁。

＂Utopia＂ which is the dream that people has been hoping earnestly and looking for, is reflected in numerous Chinese and foreign literature works. This article, based on of Border Town by Shen Congwen and Gulliver＇s Travels by Jonathan Swift, attempts to probe into similarities and differences of themes of Utopia in the literature works under different cultural backgrounds. Although one of the works reconstructs the past and the other conjectures the future, both of them reveal the same theme from different angles： The beautiful Utopia is at the cost of spirit, soul and freedom, but people can＇t make a real choice. Therefore, we can not find the right path which leads to the other shore forever.
