通过文本细读,可以看出沈从文的湘西系列小说中以狮、虎、豹等兽类来比附人物的叙写,除了作者有意识地用雄强和柔顺的兽类隐喻和象征湘西人的精神,深层无意识冲动即民族记忆对作家创作的强势入侵也是狮、虎、豹等兽类涌现在作者笔端的重要原因,兽类的象征指向昭示了沈从文心灵深处的权力崇拜情结。

A detailed reading of Shen Congwen＇s series novels about the west of Hunan province shows that his comparison of animals such as lions, tigers and leopards to human being is made with one more purpose. First, the author consciously indicates strong or tender animals as a symbol of the spirit of people in the west of Hunan province. Secondly, the impact of the unconscious impulse in depth of the mind （ie. national consciousness） on the author＇s writing makes him involve these animals in his writing. More importantly, the symbolic indication of animals reflects the power worship feeling in the author＇s uttermost soul.
