This paper gives a general introduction of material selection and dimension calculation of hanger rods in Shanghai Boiler Works Ltd. Considering that the selection of material allowable stress in dimension calculation for hanger rods in former standard is no longer suitable for the current determination principle of the material allowable stress-the safety factor has been modified, we can reduce the hanger rod size by adjusting the allowable stress and the section area of the screw thread end in standard.
