The teaching effect of Advanced English keeps unsatisfactory in the English department of normal universities. This paper analyses the causes of the teaching problems and suggests to solve the problems from the following two aspects： 1. Renewing teaching notions and improving teaching methods; 2. Integrating the characteristics and tasks of normal universities to the teaching of the course, paying more attention to pre - service training for students.
