Development of the West Regions and Higher Education

高等教育优先发展是实施西部大开发的根本大计,具有十分重要的战略意义。优先发展西部地区高等教育,关键是树立教育是事关全局的基础性和先导性产业的观念,将党和国家发展贫困地区教育的政策落到实处,千方百计增加对教育的投入,全面提高教师队伍的整体素质;发展西部高等教育除了中东部要主动参与西部的教育资源开发外,西部高等教育要加快布局结构调整;办学模式的多样化;合理利用教育资源,促进产、学、研结合,实现西部高等教育与西部经济和社会发展的协调一致。

Higher education is the key to development of the West regions of China. Measures such as establishing the concept that education lays foundation for all - round development, implementing government＇s policy on developing education of the impoverished areas, increasing investments in education, improving the overall quality of the teaching staff, making rational adjustments in the distribution of education, diversifying modes for running schools, taking advantage of educational resources may be taken m as to achieve the harmony between higher education and economy and society in development of the West regions of China.
