Poetic novels am an important part of Wang Meng＇s works as well as the contemporary evolution of modem Chinese poetic novels. His poetic novels have gone through three different historical stages. In terms of aesthetic qualities, they are the products of ＂dreams＂ and ＂poetry＂, endowed with a strong ideal flavor. Their artistic forms are characterized by features of ＂soul stories＂ and ＂polyphony＂ novels.
