In the present communication the solid acid SO 2- 4/TiO 2 SiO 2 was prepared and first used to catalyze the regioselective nitration of aromatic hydrocarbon. It was found that the solid acid SO 2- 4/TiO 2 SiO 2 was a good catalyst for the regioselective mononitration of toluene. A proper way of preparing good catalyst is that the binary oxide TiO 2 SiO 2 was prepared by homogeneous co precipitation and soaked in 0.5 M aqueous sulfuric acid for 15 minutes, and the obtained solid was calcined at 500℃ for 3 hours.
